What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable substance that has a wide range of aesthetic, dental, and medical applications. The active ingredient in Botox, a small amount of purified botulinum toxin protein, works within muscles to reduce movement.

Brooklyn Dental Spa offers Botox as an aesthetic and dental service, its uses range from minimizing wrinkles, wrinkle prevention, and TMJ disorders, gummy smiles, migraines, and more.

What types of wrinkles does Botox treat?

Botox treats dynamic wrinkles — the lines that appear when you frown, laugh, or make other expressions. Dynamic wrinkles usually appear and then vanish soon afterward.

But, over the years, your skin loses some of its natural elasticity, causing it to bounce back slower. Lines may linger longer and longer after you make an expression until they eventually become permanent. Botox can greatly reduce those wrinkles in the following areas:

  • Between the eyebrows
  • On the forehead
  • Around the eyes (crow's feet)

Cosmetic Botox may also treat other areas of your face, depending on your specific wrinkles and concerns.

How does Botox treatment work?

Specialists inject Botox directly into the muscles in each specific treatment area. For the between-brows and forehead areas, you receive five injections per area.

For crow's feet, you receive three injections on the outer corners of each eye. Botox doesn't spread, so it won't affect any muscles other than those receiving the injection.

Because Botox treatment uses a very fine needle, the treatment process isn't typically uncomfortable. Treatment usually takes a matter of 30 minutes or less, with the actual injections taking just a few minutes.

You can go home or proceed with your day immediately after Botox injections.

When does Botox start working?

You may experience results in just 24-48 hours. Optimal results appear 30 days after your treatment.

How long does Botox last?

Botox can last for up to four months. If you notice your wrinkles returning, simply book a follow-up treatment to keep a smooth and unlined face.

Brooklyn Dental Spa offers Botox and other non-surgical aesthetics treatments like dermal fillers, the liquid facelift, and PDO threads. Learn more by calling the office or clicking the online scheduler.
